The Yaris is Toyota’s subcompact economy car. The Toyota Yaris offers unbeatable value with its excellent fuel economy, trendy exterior, and roomy interior. The 2011 Toyota Yaris brings even more value by adding its new comprehensive package of safety features as standard. The Yaris is available as a three-door hatchback, five-door hatchback, and a four-door sedan.
The Yaris comes standard as a five-speed manual transmission powered by a 1.5 liter, 106 horsepower engine. Topping most rivals, the Yaris’ leading fuel economy is attributed to an EPA-estimated 29 miles per gallon in the city and 36 miles per gallon on the highway, resulting in 32 miles per gallon combined for the manual model. The four-speed automatic transmission is also available as an option. The automatic offers slightly lower but very respectable numbers at 29 miles per gallon in the city, 25 miles per gallon on the highway, resulting in 31 miles per gallon combined.
The impressive 2011 Toyota Yaris offers a new extensive list of safety features. The Yaris stands out in its class by being one of the few to offer such a broad assortment of safety features as standard. The Star Safety System that comes standard includes Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, Anti-lock Brake System with Electronic Brake Force Distribution, and Brake Assist. Other safety features include driver and front passenger front seat-mounted side airbags and front and rear side curtain airbags.
The Toyota Yaris’ standard features include multi-reflector halogen headlamps, intermittent front windshield wipers, 14-inch steel wheels with full wheel covers, air conditioning, and four way adjustable front seats. Beyond the standard features, the Yaris also offers cruise control, integrated front fog lamps, and 15-inch alloy wheels as stand-alone options. Generous progressive option packages are also available.
The Convenience Package adds an AM/FM CD/MP3 player with playback capability, auxiliary audio jack, and satellite radio capability. Also added are 60/40 split down rear seats (sliding/reclining feature in hatchbacks), 15-inch steel wheels with wheel covers, and a rear window wiper for the sedan models. The Power Package includes the same features as the Convenience Package, along with keyless entry and power doors, windows, and outside mirrors. The Sports Package includes the Power Package in conjunction with front and rear underbody spoilers, integrated front fog lamps, iPod interface, Auto Sound Leveling, sport seats and leather-trimmed steering wheel. Lastly, the All Weather Guard Package provides the vehicle with a larger window washer tank, a heavy duty heater, a heavy duty starter, and a rear heater duct.
The stylish Toyota Yaris interior differs slightly among the hatchback and sedan models. The main differences being the sedan measures 20 inches longer allowing for more space in the cabin and the interior appearance is less eccentric than the hatchback. Both hatchbacks and the sedan offer comfortable seats and an overall comfortable design. The Toyota Yaris’ exterior is equally stylish and is able to appeal to all by offering a contemporary hatchback model, as well as a more conservative looking sedan design.
